Real Club de Golf Sotogrande (Sotogrande Golf Course).
Holes 18, Par: 72 - Length/m: White: 6304 Yellow: 5874 Red: 5147
Founded in 1964, Real Club de Golf Sotogrande is located on prime golfing land close to the beachfront between the river Guadiaro and Sotogrande marina. Anyone lucky enough to have played at one of Spain’s foremost members’ clubs will be able to confirm Robert Trent Jones was right to take pride in what is an extraordinarily good design.
The greens are large and the tees are very long, some would say excessively so, but they allow for variations in pin placement and the length of hole. The contours of the greens are typical Trent Jones and the bunkers were the first in Europe to be filled with brilliant white crushed marble. Another “first” at Sotogrande was the use of Bermuda grass on fairways.
Located in the province of Cádiz (Andalucía, Spain), at kilometre 130 of the National Highway 340 and 3 kilometres from its neighbour Valderrama Golf Club and 150 metres from the Mediterranean Sea, in the luxury urbanization of Sotogrande.
Ranked as one of the best golf courses in the 100 Greatest Courses in the World by the GolfWeb Editorial Staff, and ranked number 5 in Europe. Holes 7 and 12 have special relevance, as are considered two of the best holes in the World by GOLF MAGAZINE's publishers. It is the first golf course designed by Robert Trent Jones in Europe.
