Southern Spain.
Southern Spain is a dream destination for golfers, boasting Europes best climate, the south of Spain offers the chance to play all year round. Of course, it's not just about golf, it's also about finding the perfect holiday destination too and where better than a region of Europe where the sun shines 300 days a year !
The Weather may be one factor in making southern Spain such a popular holiday destination, but then too, the superb hospitality and relaxed attitudes of the local Spanish, has to be another. Southern Spain is an incredible place, with some outstanding coastal regions and even more outstanding rural landscapes. It is rich in Spanish traditions and culture and yet, in many of the larger towns, considerably modern!
Of the most visited regions of southern Spain is the Costa del Sol, renouned for it's place as the golfing capital of Europe and presenting a diverse collection of resort towns, with some great beaches. In this region there are over 50 golf courses, 70 if you travel just a little outside, hence the Costa del Sol has long been the favouite destination amongst golfers.
Then you have the region of Almeria, strikingly different to the Costa del Sol and far less overcrowded in summer. Almeria is becoming a very popular destination for golfers and holiday makers, however, it often appears to have been untouched by progress, offering a taste of the real Spain. Almeria has some truley amazing beaches, free from the high rise hotels, apartments and "urban sprawl", where you can relax in peace and listen only to the waves.
Those of you with a passion for watersports would be wise to head in the other direction, past the Costa del Sol and into the region known as the Costa de la Luz. This regon presents you with the Atlantic Ocean and is famous for it's water sports. In recent times the Costa de La Luz has also become a popular destination for golfers too and presents you with some really outstanding golf courses. Again, the Costa de la Luz is a little less "spoiled" and keeps it's hotels a little more discreet than the Costa del Sol.
Southern Spain is known as Andalucia (The land of light) it is steeped in History throughout, the official language is Castillian Spanish, however there are a few local variations on the "mother tounge". Speaking a little Spanish will gain you respect, but it is not always needed in tourist destinations, as many people do speak English too. Off the beaten track though, you would be wise to carry a Spanish Dictionary.
